How to Make Your Clothes Last Longer: A Simple Care Guide

Ahead of LVMH's open-house weekend (Oct 16-18), FashionUnited toured Louis Vuitton's repair workshop outside Paris. The house runs 12 repair workshops worldwide and handles close to 600,000 items a year, all to extend the life of every product as long as possible.

That's a big statement from the biggest name in luxury, and it holds at every price point. Buying better is only half of it. The other half is taking care of what you already own.

At KUWALLA-TEE (say it like QUALITY), we've been making elevated essentials in Montreal as a family since 2012. Here's how we look after ours.

1. Wash less than you think

Every wash wears fibres down a little. A knit worn over a tee can go several wears between washes, denim even longer, and jackets almost never need one. Air things out overnight and spot-clean small marks. Always check the care label first. If it says something different, follow the label.

2. Cold water, inside out, gentle cycle

For tees and most cotton, turn it inside out, wash cold, and use a gentle cycle with less detergent. It protects colour, prints, and fit. That matters for pieces like our Oversized Heavy Tee, where the pigment-dyed wash is the whole look. See more in T-Shirts and Polos.

3. Skip the dryer

Heat is the fastest way to shrink a tee or warp a knit. Hang tees and shirts, and lay knits flat. If you do use the dryer, set it to low heat and pull things out while they're still slightly damp.

4. Treat knitwear like knitwear

Fold sweaters instead of hanging them, because hangers stretch the shoulders. Hand wash or use a wool cycle, cold. Never wring a sweater. Roll it in a towel and dry it flat. Use a fabric comb when pilling starts. That's how our Monogram Knit Crew and Knitted Zip Hoodie stay in rotation all season. Browse Men's Knitwear.

5. Let wool blends breathe

Wool-blend pieces like the Plannel Shirt and Tweed Jacket mostly need air and a brush, not a wash. Hang jackets on wide, shaped hangers, and go to a dry cleaner you trust when they really need a clean. More in Men's Jackets.

6. Let denim be denim

Wear jeans a lot and wash them rarely. When you do, wash them inside out and cold, then hang them to dry. Our Baggy Denim in Scratched Blue is made to be worn in, not worn out. See every fit in Men's Denim.

7. Fix small things early

Louis Vuitton's repair team says "no is not an option." A loose button or an opening seam takes a tailor minutes to fix and can add years to a piece. Sew the button back on tonight instead of retiring the shirt next month.

Care is part of quality

Smart luxury means choosing pieces worth keeping and then actually keeping them. That's how we build every collection, including FALL / WINTER 26. Flip through the Take The Long Way Home - FW26 The Second Drop to see it all in real outfits.

That's timeless wear. And at Kuwalla Tee, it's still A Family Affair.
